{"id":1907,"date":"2018-06-20T17:23:56","date_gmt":"2018-06-20T17:23:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ripm.org\/cnc\/?p=1907"},"modified":"2018-06-20T17:23:56","modified_gmt":"2018-06-20T17:23:56","slug":"ripms-recent-and-forthcoming-publications-part-ii-2016-2017","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cnc.ripm.org\/?p=1907","title":{"rendered":"RIPM&#8217;s Recent and Forthcoming Publications&nbsp; <br\/>Part II: 2016-2017"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Editor (Baltimore):<em>\u00a0To date, RIPM offers access to some 291 full-text searchable music periodicals, to over 1.1 million full-text pages online and to some 901,000 annotated citations.\u00a0Over the past two years, RIPM\u2019s Associate Editor Nicoletta Betta has presented a paper dealing with RIPM\u2019s recently completed and current indexing projects at the annual congress of the\u00a0International Association of Music Libraries, Archives, and Documentation Centres (IAML, held respectively in Rome, 2016; and Riga, 2017).\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-indent: 2em;\"><em>Today we continue with the second installment of this series.\u00a0 <\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">*\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0*\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0*<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-indent: 2em;\">In 2016, fourteen journals were indexed and will be available in the Retrospective Index, along with, in most cases, the full-text of the indexed titles.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-indent: 2em;\">In my presentation,\u00a0I will provide basic publication information for all periodicals, the name of the RIPM editor or collaborator responsible for its indexing, and then select one or more journals for discussion, explaining why they were chosen for inclusion in RIPM. For clarity, the journals are grouped by country of publication.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-indent: 2em;\">RIPM collaborators Peter S\u00fchring (Berlin) and Alexander Staub (Leipzig) continued indexing the monumental <em>Neue Zeitschrift f\u00fcr Musik <\/em>(NZM) by expanding its index to include the \u201cKleine Zeitung\u201d (little newspaper), a section dedicated to reporting on musical life in Germany. This column, which increased in length and content year after year, regularly contains information about concerts, tours of composers and performers, obituaries, music festivals, and new opera productions. After indexing the \u201cKleine Zeitung\u201d sections, our colleagues indexed the \u201cTagesgeschichte\u201d (daily history) and \u201cVermischtes\u201d (miscellaneous) sections. The\u00a0<em>Neue Zeitschrift f\u00fcr Musik\u00a0<\/em>is currently available in the Retrospective Index to Music Periodicals with Full Text from the years 1834 to 1859.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1910 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ripm.org\/cnc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/1.2-IAML-2016.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"621\" height=\"776\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cnc.ripm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/1.2-IAML-2016.jpg 621w, https:\/\/www.cnc.ripm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/1.2-IAML-2016-568x710.jpg 568w, https:\/\/www.cnc.ripm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/1.2-IAML-2016-240x300.jpg 240w, https:\/\/www.cnc.ripm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/1.2-IAML-2016-184x230.jpg 184w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 621px) 100vw, 621px\" \/><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">Neue Zeitschrift f\u00fcr Musik<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"> Vol. LIV No. I (1861): 7.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">*\u00a0 \u00a0*\u00a0 \u00a0*<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-indent: 2em;\">Two Viennese publications were also treated: S\u00fchring indexed <em>Musikalischer Kurier<\/em> (Vienna, 1919-22); and Staub, <em>Musikbote<\/em> (Vienna, 1924-26).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-indent: 2em;\">Edited by Max Graf, a pupil of Eduard Hanslick and Anton Bruckner, <em>Musikalischer Kurier<\/em> typified the complex nature of post-World War I Austria, by reflecting both the desire to preserve the old values of Austro-German musical culture and the need to accept modernist ideas. While primarily an informative bulletin about these composers\u2019 activities, the journal also contained information about new music produced abroad, music bibliography, concerts, radio programs, and recordings. Gabriel Caballero (New York) indexed <em>Revista de Musica<\/em> (Buenos Aires, 1927-28, 1930) and <em>Musica Chile<\/em> (Santiago, 1920-23) and collaborator Natalia Ostroumova (Moscow) treated <em>Russian musical vestnik<\/em> (1880-82) and <em>Muzikal\u2019naya nov <\/em>(1923-24), both published in Moscow.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-indent: 2em;\">The main aim of <em>La Revista de Musica<\/em> was to inform its readers about foreign musical trends: the decline of the tonal system, the flourishing of new harmonic theories, and the birth of new media.
